Donate Life Arkansas - First Person Consent
Understanding how your donor registration gives legal authorization for donation.
What it means
Your decision to register as a donor can serve as legal authorization for organ, tissue, and eye donation.
First Person Consent, or First Person Authorization, is legislation that allows donor designation to be indicated on a driver’s license, state identification card, or an official signed donor document, and gives hospitals legal authority to proceed with organ procurement without consent from the family.
This means that if you have registered to become a donor on the Arkansas online registry, your driver’s license, or your state identification card, your family, or next of kin, will not be asked for permission to recover your organs.
